The leaders led by Seme Mp James Nyikal, Rarienda Mp Otiende Amollo, Ruaraka Mp TJ Kajwang, Migori woman representative Pamela Odhiambo and Homa bay senator Moses kajwang   paid a courtesy visit to the late Paul Koinange home in Kiambaa on Friday to pay their respect saying that the koinange family was very instrumental in the liberation and unity of the country.

“Kikuyu’s and Luo’s let us know that whenever we are engaged in unnecessary fighting’s foreigners come and take our land and take our blessings. We need to know that we need to guard this nation,” said Odhiambo.

Senator Kajwang said that as the late Paul Koinange is being eulogized the koinange family has played a key role in the building bridges initiative (BBI).

“It is not a fairy tale it is a fact. We can also tell the contribution of this family to building bridges between two communities that historically have been at loggerheads. I am sure that mheshimiwa Paul one of his greatest wishes was to see Kenyans live together as brothers and sisters not only Kikuyus and Luos alone but all communities and we have a duty as leaders to make sure that it works,” said Kajwang.

Amollo said that the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime minister Raila Odinga was not welcomed by many Mt. Kenya region leaders but only a few who include the late koinange saw the need for the country unity.

“from the handshake to now the BBI the late koinange has been steadfast in supporting the country unity and led the kikuyu elders in reaching out to the Luo elders in a bid to seek unity between the two communities,” said Amollo.

Ndaragwa Mp Jeremiah Kioni led the kikuyu council of elder’s delegation in welcoming the Luo leaders said that the step of BBI to be reached needs leaders who are in support to be bold.

“The late Koinange was a key actor in the visit of kikuyu elders to Bondo to meet the Luo elders. The entrenching of handshake between the President and former Prime minister was a very important step even though it was not supported by some leaders,” said Kioni.

Wachira kiago the kikuyu council of elder’s national chairman however said that the journey of the BBI should be realized as a united country so that the fruits of peace can be reaped.
