He spoke at Uplands forest in Lari sub -county where he led the embassy, Kenya Forest Service and members of the community forest association to plant 3,000 trees

The Israel ambassador said even if their five years will expire next year, they will continue to support government programs that will see the environment conserved.

He was accompanied by deputy forest chief conservator Charity Munyasia, central highlands conservator Samuel Ihure, Kiambu ecosystem conservator Paul Karanja and uplands forest manager Isaac Waweru.  Others were Equity Bank Limuru branch, who donated the seedlings.

Munyasia says that the KFS has embarked on raising the production of seedlings from 18 million seedlings from 4million seedlings per year.

She explains that this will assist the president's goal of achieving 10 percent forest cover in 2022, adding that the country stands at 7.2 percent forest cover.

Munyasia says they have to involve partners and institutions so as to ensure trees are planted.

Equity bank Limuru branch manager Joseph Weru says after the bank celebrated its 35 years of existence in 2019, it resolved to plant 35 million trees in the public forests.

Weru says that their challenge was the infection of Covid 19 disease in the country and the world, saying they hoped to have completed planting those trees within two years.

Munyasia who thanked the tree planting participants for observing social distance and other Covid 19 protocols, urged people to start planting trees from their homes adding that there were some people who were harvesting trees from their homes but were not replacing them, leaving the government with a challenge of achieving the 10 per cent at the expected time.
